This 176-page packet helps tackle many of the questions surrounding close reading. It's designed specifically for primary students (grades K-2).

Finally, it's time to do some close reading in small groups!
Eight non-fiction articles are provided for close reading. The articles are about the following topics:
- Anacondas
- Thunderstorms
- Chimpanzees
- Astronauts
- Rainforests
- Volcanos
- Ocean Animals
- Turtles
Vocabulary words and reading response sheets are provided for each article. The reading response sheets require students to PROVIDE EVIDENCE in writing.
Five fiction stories are provided for you as well. The titles of the stories are:
- Molly’s Dolly
- The New Pup
- No Peas, Please!
- Percy the Princess
- Camping Time!

I've also included 14 independent practice sheets that help students practice close reading on their own.
Students can summarize, synthesize, question, and evaluate their close reading articles and stories using one of the 40 graphic organizer sheets included.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.1 Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
