Nonfiction can really get interesting with high-interest, relevant texts and challenging questions. This document contains an article about social cliques in school, close reading questions, an exhaustive tone word list, a suggested lesson plan, a guideline for answers to the questions, and a fun exit ticket. All close reading questions are common-core aligned, and all the prep work is done for you. Print and enjoy!
I hope this leads to a fruitful discussion with your students. Cliques are a high-interest topic among most teens and tweens and affect them more than they might realize. Close reading exercises are an excellent way to push students to think on a more critical level and to prepare them for future assessments.
