A close reading pack for your entire class!! In this pack there are 6 reading passages on the topic of: How do musical instruments make sound? The passages cover a wide range of reading abilities so you can use with your whole class during reading group time.
These passages are perfect for close reading because they are short, they are challenging texts, questions require text evidence, and text and graphic features are included to further understanding.
Since your whole class is reading on the same topic, each reading group becomes an “expert group” for each instrument. At the end of the week, each group can present their findings. A graphic organizer is included for your whole class to organize the information from all groups. This is a wonderful tool to compare/contrast, draw conclusions, and summarize information. In addition, students practice Speaking & Listening standards as they share with the rest of the class.
Each passage includes a variety of resources, allowing you to pick and choose what you need for each group. The resources include:
Text – Just the text for you to use with any questions, response sheets, or graphic organizers.
Text with picture boxes – Students sketch a picture to match that part. This greatly helps with comprehension and summarizing the main parts.
Text with questions – Practice close reading by using text evidence to answer the questions.
Visual – Use the visual to extend your understanding of each instrument.
Graphic organizer – Students practice a specific reading skill and use a graphic organizer.
