This pack is a great resource to use all year long to incorporate Close Reading into your classroom. It includes all the materials you will need to set up Close reading in your Kindergarten or 1st grade classroom- all you need to add is a book! Anchor charts and a lesson plan template will guide you in how to set up Close Reading in your classroom. I included a sample lesson plan that you can try out in your classroom to help you become comfortable with Close Reading.

Close Reading is an important piece of addressing the Common Core Standards as it requires students to truly comprehend the text by digging deeper and using specific evidence from the text to answer comprehension questions. We want to prepare our students to not only be good readers but also to be good at comprehending the text. Close Reading in Kindergarten and 1st Grade is similar to Shared Reading where you can read aloud a text but with a specific focus for each rereading of the text related to a Common Core Standard. This pack will help you learn how to plan for a 1st read, 2nd read and 3rd read of the text, digging deeper each time while addressing different Common Core Stands with evidence cited from the text. Students will show their evidence from the text via the graphic organizers provided.

The question cards and graphic organizers included are great for conducting a Close Reading lesson in a guided reading group or in whole group read alouds. Students will have the opportunity to dig deeper and show true comprehension of the text you choose through completion of the graphic organizers by providing specific evidence from the text.
