1 fiction and 1 nonfiction passage about.... DOGS!
Included are a notes/ vocabulary section and text dependent questions for wach passage.
Day One: Cold Read- or a simple read for enjoyment. Students’ purpose for hearing the passage is for simple enjoyment.
Day Two: Vocabulary. On day two the reading purpose is to discover unknown words. Student can circle or highlight words they are unsure about. Use the "notes" section to draw pictures of and make connections with vocabulary. Have students share their notes with a partner. Reconvene as a whole class and record a master vocabulary list.
Day Three: On this day, ask the text dependent questions! On day three, reread the passages with a focus on text structure. Students are asked to infer, predict, explain, support, and describe in the text dependent question section.
