One of the major shifts in the Common Core State Standards is that students will be slowly moving towards writing about their reading, rather than free writing. These text-dependent questions can be used as discussion prompts or as prompts for writing in a Reading Log. The purpose of close reading is for students to read the same texts multiple times for different purposes. These questions can be used with grades K-5. Students in kindergarten and first grade will be responding to these questions aloud and as a whole group. Third through fifth grade students will respond to these questions in their Reading Logs. This set of questions provides enough lessons to cover two weeks of Reading Workshop and can be combined with the other Close Reading with Kevin Henkes products in my TpT store. You may download a preview of my Close Reading with Kevin Henkes products in the bundled download (Close Reading with Kevin Henkes bundled author study unit).
