*Please note: I would recommend buying the Pixar Shorts DVD's - you can find them for $5-$10 on eBay or Amazon. While some of the shorts can be found free to watch online it is easier to buy them and is a great investment!
Close Reading does not just mean books as a form of text...it can also mean film! In fact film, especially short films like Pixar Shorts, are a great way to interest those hard to reach students or those students who struggle with reading. These short films are very high interest to kids and is a great way to introduce the concept of close reading!
Pixar Shorts are ideal to Close View (or Close 'Read') because they are very short (usually less then 3 minutes), are high interest, and are perfect to discuss and find new understandings with every view. I find that students who struggle with reading love these films because it allows them to 'read' in a different way and my students always thrived in this environment because they were not worried about the words in a text.
