This rubric is written in "kid friendly" terms to allow students to know exactly what is expected of them when they are closely reading text. It gives them four different categories; What does the text say? (summary), How does it say it? (author develops text for a purpose), What does the text mean? (theme, concept, gist) and What connections can you make? (message, effects on others). It can be used whole class or during small group - guided instruction.
