This simple board game was created to provide a fun way to practice decoding closed syllables and discriminating medial vowel sounds. To play this game, your students will pull a card and decode the closed syllable on it. They will have to find the next spot on the board that corresponds to the short vowel sound they just read. This game is simple and easy. The words on the game cards are all closed syllables, including some nonsense syllables. I have controlled the text by including only closed syllables, beginning consonant blends, and the digraphs th, sh, ch, qu and wh.
I have used this game successfully in small group classes and in one-on-one Orton-Gillingham tutoring sessions.
