This is a center for closed syllables. The first and second syllable of each word is a cvc pattern. I made this to go along with McGraw-Hill's second grade reading curriculum, Wonders. This center is also appropriate for middle of the year first graders.
There are 19 pages in this center. It includes 1 title page, an answer key, a record sheet, student and teacher directions. There 15 picture cards and 30 syllable cards.
Common Core Standards are:
CCSS ELA Literacy RF1.3e Decode two syllable words, following basic patterns and breaking the words into syllables.
CCSS ELA Literacty RF 2.3 Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
The children identify the picture on the cards. Below the picture are two empty spaces where they attach the syllable cards, which are the first and second syllable of each picture's word.
I put velcro on the back of each syllable card and on the spaces so that the words are stationary. That way children can easily record the word and its parts on the record sheet, without getting the card mixed up.
