Cloze Passages are great teaching tools for beginning readers! I've included both everyday and seasonal passages which can be used to encourage the use of meaning and structure cues as decoding strategies. Cloze passages are short stories with omitted words. A word bank helps students determine which word makes sense in the blank. The passages can be used as an intervention strategy with a struggling reader. They can also be used as a mini-lesson with the whole class or a small group. They can even be made into self-checking activities for early finishers. Answer keys are provided. To complete the activity, students read the passage and choose words from the word box that make sense in the sentence. After using all of the words, students should reread to make sure the passage makes sense. This set includes eight original passages and answer keys. In addition to more everyday topics, passages related to Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Winter are included in this set.
