This activity is a great review for closed syllable concepts! Each student gets a “CLUE” board (6 are included). You read the clues (concepts) to the students, they find the word on their board and cover it with a chip or use a dry erase marker to make an “X” on the board (chips and markers not included).
Students should know the following concepts: closed syllable, consonant blends, consonant digraphs, the nasal sounds of “am”, “an”, “ng” and “ng”, the closed syllable exceptions (ild, old, ost, ind, olt), and closed syllable division.
You can also have the students use a dry erase marker on laminated boards to “code” the words (examples, divide syllables, underline digraphs, circle nasal chunks, box exceptions, etc.)
