These are definitions and word lists that go along with a science lesson on Clues to Earth's Past or Fossils.
Each student should receive a copy of the definition sheet. There are different copies included with or without gridlines. Also included is a word list. This list is repeated 4 times on a page so you only need one copy of this sheet for every 4 students. There are 2 copies of the word list; different fonts and one all in the same font. You choose which one to use with your students.
Take it for a grade or review answers with students to check for understanding.
Then I have my students fold the sheet and glue into their interactive notebook.
Use these sheets as homework checks, at the beginning of a unit to familiarize students with the vocabulary, or add it in as a station rotation during lab work.
I have seen my students working quietly and quickly to look up definitions to match words to. The cutting and pasting give kinesthetic learners something to actually do. Where I have lots of problems getting my students to look up and write 5 definitions for their notebook, I have much greater participation and completion using these activities.
Answer Keys are included.
