Product Description
Included in this lesson:
1 student notes page
1 vocabulary fill in (copy at 79% to fit into a standard sized composition book)
3 vocabulary match pages
5 student worksheets with answer keys (if you do not copy in color you can color the pages before laminating to make a permanent set or instead have students assume they are white flowers and striped flowers.)
1 student evaluation and answer key

Suggested lesson progression:

Engage: Show students an interesting co-dominance animal (chickens, and cows are good examples) and have them think/pair/share the traits of the animal or show students a YouTube video of unique organism and have them share previous knowledge of the organism.

Explore: Give students the three pages of vocabulary match cards (I laminate and cut mine). Students can play a game like spoons or race to be the fastest to match all terms, definitions and examples. Then have students fill in their vocabulary summary page. Ask them to write their own definitions and examples or have them copy from the vocabulary cards

Explain: Present student notes either as a whole group, or by having students read through the note pages in small groups. Shrink student note pages to 79% and they will fit into a standard sized composition book.

Explain: Working either individually or in small groups, have students complete the flower cards. I like to laminate mine and have students complete the flower cards one at a time and then transfer their answers to the analysis sheet. That enables me to check their work before transferring. I have my students glue the analysis sheet, notes and vocabulary summary into their composition books.

Elaborate: Have students research co-dominance and give examples of organisms and traits that are passed on co-dominantly.

Evaluate: Students complete the summary assessment page.

Standards and Objectives:
This lesson addresses the following vocabulary: genotype, phenotype, trait, dominant, co-dominant, homozygous, heterozygous, and Punnett square.

Student skills: use of Punnett squares, identifying traits as either dominant or co-dominant. identifying phenotype and genotype given a picture, predicting offspring traits given the genotype/phenotype of the parents.
