If you are the kind of teacher who wants to improve your pedagogy or a principal wondering how to get co coaching working in your school, this is for you. Whether you have already identified a colleague in your school, a critical friend outside the workplace or whether you’re on your own, the strategies will help you explore your professional practice in the context of whole school improvement and enable you to influence others.
Many teachers fear opening their classrooms and their professional practice for critique so while we might all agree that collegial coaching ticks all the boxes almost no innovation succeeds without a framework to support it.
These strategies turn the tables on traditional ways of thinking about coaching. They provide a framework for co coaching that takes the focus off the teacher being coached and places it with the coach, allowing trusting relationships to develop over time to enable in-depth co coaching to occur.
The strategies can be adapted for individual, pair or whole school learning. Please feel free to experiment and I’d love to hear from you if you come up with some new and creative ways to use them.
