Many teachers fear opening their classrooms and their professional practice for critique so while we might all agree that collegial coaching ticks all the boxes a supported approach is more likely to succeed than the more confronting methods traditionally used.
Co coaching requires a culture shift; time must be spent learning the subtleties required to manage trusting relationships between colleagues before effective co coaching can happen.
This strategy turns the tables on traditional ways of thinking about coaching. It provides a framework for co coaching that takes the focus off the teacher being coached and places it with the coach, allowing trusting relationships to develop over time to enable in-depth co coaching to occur.
The strategy can be adapted for individual, pair or whole school learning. Please feel free to experiment and I’d love to hear from you if you come up with some new and creative ways to use the strategy.
