Coal! A Holiday Card game of Comparing Numbers 0-10
This will be the most fun your students will have this holiday season! This card game focuses on comparing numbers on a ten frame 0-10.
How to play:
This is a game for 2-3 people.
Place the deck of cards, shuffled, face down.
Each player takes a card off the top of the deck.
On the count of 3, flip the card over. The player with the largest value wins that round of cards. Students should share their reasoning with the group and justify all answers.
Continue playing until there are no more cards in the deck, or until time runs out.
Watch out for the coal cards! You’ll automatically lose the round and may have an added punishment!
The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins!
Play for the smallest value instead of the largest.
The coal cards are optional. Add in the ones you like, print more to mix into the deck, or don’t use them at all.
On your turn, state an addition fact with a sum of ten ( Ex: my card is 3, so I will say “3 + 7 = 10”)
On your turn, state an addition or subtraction equation that equals the value on your card ( Ex: my card is 4, so I might say “2 + 2” or “7 – 3”)
