This Omega English Product contains a detailed Common Core aligned lesson plan that highlights the Danielson Components. It is intended to be used with the 8th grade Code X Curriculum and corresponds to short story “Zebra” by Chaim Potok pages 164-165 in the text (Identify Evidence: Analyze Individuals, Events, and Ideas). In addition, a Power Point Presentation that corresponds to the lesson and contains vivid visuals is included. It contains 3 differentiated graphic organizers (high, mid, low) to ensure the needs of all students are met. Thus, this can be used utilized regardless of what type of diverse learners you have in your classroom. Included is also a teacher checklist.

This is a print ready lesson; however, it can be easily edited because it was created in a Microsoft Word document. All lessons are teacher/student tested. This lesson was created by an Omega English teacher that was rated overall Highly Effective and receive extensive training on Code X. In addition, the creator has participated in Code X Curriculum development; thus, their knowledge of the content is extensive.

Note: This lesson was tailored around 8th grade ELA standards; however, since standards build off each prior year it can be used in a Middle School or High School setting. It contains sufficient differentiation and is clear enough to be used in a Middle School setting, but also sophisticated enough to be used in a High School setting. If you are not using the Code X Curriculum, but are teaching the short story, “Zebra,” you can still use this lesson.
