These word cards cover Fry's first 100 set of sight words. Cut apart and laminate these cards for endless possibilities, such as word walls, flash cards, game cards, word rings, homework practice, etc.
To help teach the different sounds in all of the words (because we all know sounding out can mean 500 different possibilities), I've added a coding system to all of these cards. Different marks include short and long sound for vowels, silent letters, hunks and chunks, and consonant blends. Each mark is uniform across all words, such as a long vowel gets a straight, blue line on top of the letter, whereas a hunk and chunk gets a highlighted square behind the letters.
All pages are on a white background to help save you color, however all of the coding have specific colors that are uniform across all cards. If you wanted to have a colored background, simply print on colored paper!
When cut apart, each card measures 2 inches by 4 inches. I use mine on my "sound wall" at school by putting each starting sound on a ring. Students can then come and grab the word ring they want, take it to their seat, and use it as a resource. I find this is a huge help during our writing workshop when students are expected to spell sight words correctly. The student just goes to the sound board and grabs what they need. This helps the student practice spelling words correctly which will eventually lead to correct spelling without a resource! I also have students just come over and grab them during extra time and read through them to see if they can get all the words correct on the ring.
Included in this file is also png formats of each word card. With this, you can import it into any document and have the background be transparent. You can also make the words larger or smaller to fit your needs while keeping the coding on the letters.
