Coding the Bard: An Instructional Unit

Coding and storytelling go hand in hand. Using a scene from William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, students will work in collaborative groups to stage a short production with Sphero robots as thespians. Students will create the characters who appear in their scene by “costuming” the Sphero robots. They will create mini-sets for their scenes with various makerspace materials. The students will then use draw, coding and colors to create the character’s blocking (movement and emotion) as they act out and narrate the scene. This instructional unit & project will take place over 10 days.
