The Wick website describes itself as a free browser-based toolkit for making basic animations and interactive applets for the web. It's built to make it as simple as possible to get some images and sounds together, make them interactive, and publish your project online.
Wick is a hybrid of an animation tool and a coding environment, heavily inspired by similar tools such as Flash, HyperCard, and Scratch. It was developed in response to a growing need for such a tool for the modern web.
This is a great way to introduce coding and higher thinking.
I feel like Wick is the next step up from Scratch. Students actually use code and do not need any special programs to execute the code. Everything can be viewed in a browser.
The lessons are provided as a pdf and with a link to the Google Slides Presentation which is fully editable. The project can be outputted as an html file, which can be opened by browsers. This is Google Classroom ready and tested on Chromebooks. This is a step by step tutorial. Students need no prior knowledge of coding or Wick.
There is no software to install and it is completely free to use Wick.
