This is a lab that can be completed after students have learned about the the normal force, the different forms of friction, and how to calculate them. Students objectives are to calculate the normal force, force of static friction, force of kinetic friction, and the coefficients of friction. There are minimal requirements for lab materials, and can easily be created by any teacher. Additionally, the lab could be modified to use surfaces found around the classroom/building to decrease the need for lab materials.
This lab is appropriate in a physics class or an advanced physical science class. It’s a good lab to end a unit, and describes how to complete each step well.
