This activity is ideal for students who are already partially-familiar with cognates. I have included it in one of my stations.
This activity is simple- it asks students look through authentic resources to find cognates. The teacher should provide reading materials- I use Spanish-language magazines and newspapers but you could use children's books, printed articles, pamphlets, Anything But Your Textbook!
The instructions are vague because there are two options for how the students should record the words they encounter. Students can write the words on the lines provided or they can cut out the words as they find them and glue them in the spaces. They only need one word per letter so if they cut-and-paste it isn't entirely important for the words to fit on the lines.
