I designed the layout and interface to minimize the amount of mouse clicks needed to play the game. In fact, other than starting and ending the game, not a single mouse click is needed. The student merely needs to type in an answer. Once an answer is typed in, the application checks to see if the answer is correct and gives appropriate feedback based on the result.
Another great feature is that upon ending the session, a thorough Activity Report is generated and displayed on-screen. This a handy assessment tool. It displays each problem the student was given, the answer given by the student and whether it is right or wrong. Also, a percent correct is given, as well as the number of minutes spent on the activity. This activity report can be saved or printed!
*Select one of 5 difficulty levels
*Positive feedback is given throughout the activity, based on the answer given.
*The experience is personalized through using the student's name on the page.
*Upon ending the activity, a personalized message of encouragement is displayed on the page. The message given is determined by the student's overall score, so it may be different depending on how well the student scores.
*The page opens with a good set of instructions that can be printed.
*With the ease-of-use, minimal teacher attention is required for the student to do this activity.
*The Activity Report gives the teacher a convenient assessment tool. The teacher can also follow up with the student on the problems that the student answered incorrectly and praise the student for problems answered correctly. By saving or printing the Activity Report, you have instant, documented assessment of this very important math skill.
All in all, this is a comprehensive math application for the elementary school level. Not only is this an engaging activity for students, it provides the teacher with a valuable assessment tool.
