Now that most states have adopted the Common Core Standards, money is (technically) ONLY addressed in second grade. Many students are coming into second grade without knowing the names or values of coins.
The CC standard is 2.MD.8...solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately.
