This activity is designed to help students with coin recognition, but could also be used for students to count money. Pictures of coins are placed next to a picture of a food item for students to "purchase." Students place a manipulative coin on top of the matching picture and identify the name of the coin. To take it one step further, students could count the total for each item. This could be made into multiple file folder games, used in centers, or used during a small-group or one-on-one instruction time. I use this with my special education students who need assistance with coin recognition skills. They love that they are "purchasing" food!
