The "hairy money" method helps students learn to identify coin values and count coins by 5's, with each "hair" representing 5 cents.
Another teacher introduced me to this method, and it really helped my struggling students learn to count coins! Those who can switch easily between counting by 25, 10, and 5 still got a kick out of it, too.
This 7-page (including 3 half-sheets) printable mini book introduces each member of the "Money Family"--Big Quarter, Tiny Dimey, Nick Nickel, and Penny--and has space for students to count the "hairs" by 5's and write in the value of each coin.
Also includes a worksheet on counting coin collections: "Be a Hairy Money Hairstylist"! Answer key is provided.
