### Description

Are you teaching about money? Here's a set of 24 math riddle task cards to build your students’ skills in counting coin combinations of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. Great for second grade and third grade math centers!

Choosing from a grid of nine numbers, your students will determine the location of the superhero's secret number by using clues to eliminate eight of the options.

A student recording page and answer key are included, to allow for independent use in a math center. For accountability/assessment, an independent page for recording coin combinations is included in this pack.

Math skills used in the clues on these cards include …

Count mixed groups of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters both in and out of

sequence, using pictures of the coins

Compare values of groups of coins, e.g. “greater than two quarters plus three

nickels”.

Sequence of coin group values, e.g. “between four nickels and five dimes”

Here are some options for using the task cards …

♦ Solve a card together to focus attention at the beginning of a lesson

♦ Use in a math center for individual or partner work

♦ Use for whole class review with your document camera

♦ Use as a skills review rotation, individually or with partners, with students moving

to stations around the classroom to solve the riddles

♦ Use for morning “bell ringers”

♦ Use as enrichment for early finishers

Please note, only US coins are used in this set.
