How many coins are in your pocket? The pockets in this math center are full of coins and waiting for your students to discover them.

Coins in My Pocket: Money Math Center & Printables is a great hands-on activity set geared toward reinforcing the skill of identifying and counting coin values to determine the amount of money represented. Students will analyze the penny, nickel, dime and its value, as well as combine coins to create amounts up to 15 cents. It includes pocket chart cards for the penny, nickel, and dime. It also includes math center game cards (you will need to supply clothespins or paperclips), memory match-up game cards and 6 printables at different levels to meet the needs of all students.
Although Common Core does not introduce money until 2nd grade, many teachers still like to introduce this important real life skill in Kindergarten and 1st grade. This center could be used in K and 1st as a simple introduction to money. The set is aligned with the CCSS 2.MD.8 and includes a printable that could be used as a formal assessment (2.MD.8-Solve word problems…dimes, nickels, and pennies…).
