I bought a unit plan on Cold Mountain when I first began teaching the novel (not on TpT!) and it was basically useless. After teaching the novel multiple times, I put all the activities I have used into one document and attempted to put out what I would have liked to found when I first started teaching this book:
This unit contains two parts: the first is a 67 page Word document. It contains reading check questions, various activities, a unit study guide, & three versions of a test. The activities for the novel include students working with Civil War speeches, poetry, archetypes, Civil War letters, debates, & several writing assignments. I have used all these activities, but have never had enough time to use all of them--so hopefully this list will give you a lot to work with.
The second file is a 71 page Power Point with analytical questions that ask students to discuss the novel and specific quotations. I use a Power Point during discussion to make sure I cover everything during class discussion & to appeal to different learning styles (visual and auditory). The questions on this presentation should build students up to being able to answer the questions on the test(s).
