Help your US and World History students understand the complexity of the Cold War with this timeline. It is organized by president with key terms/events on the left and descriptions on the right.
It is in document form so you can add and/or delete items based on your own curriculum/needs.
It can be provided for information purposes only, or use it to develop historical thinking skills. Here are some ideas:
~ Have student use the timeline to identify continuity and change over time in the context of the Cold War era, from Truman to Reagan (or any other pair of presidents).
~Select specific events and have student identify cause and effect, using the information provided on the timeline.
~ In groups, have students negotiate the top ten most important events and discuss why.
~ Find primary source documents in the context of five specific events on the timeline. Make it more interesting by having students find two different perspectives for each (compare perspectives).
