Because the Cold War spans roughly 45 years of history, this activity is designed to highlight and help students review the presidents, policies, and major events of the conflict. The product includes a handout with 26 events and policies from 1945-1991, a timeline sheet and key, as well as a few follow up questions for students to discuss and answer as a group. This activity is meant to be completed after you teach the end of the Cold War as a summary and review of the conflict. It will help students to recall the major events and policies of the conflict from Truman to Bush 41. I usually give students the timeline first and give them time to fill it out to the best of their abilities from memory only. Once they have completed all they can from memory, I have them pull out their notes to fill in the blanks. This is a great cooperative learning activity to sum up the Cold War. It's also a great way to assess how well your students have learned the events and eras of the Cold War.
