This collection includes Oomph!, Oops, and Preston's Goal! These are fractured fairy tales, and each is compared to Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. With all three, character and plot analysis are key skills. Students also learn wonderful vocabulary through McNaughton's word choice. Writing about reading is a central focus, so each book can be individually analyzed and used as a mentor text.
My units use a before/during/after approach, so before reading, students experience a schema building activity, vocabulary introduction, and focus skill modeling. During reading, students use a graphic organizer or foldable to record book information and interpretation, and post reading includes questioning and written response.
For more indepth information on each individual title, you can check the other listings. Preview pages will give you an idea of how I organize the unit. Thanks for looking, and please let me know if you have questions.
