Need an easy way to partner your students? Students sign up for five different partners per marking period, keeping students from worrying about who their partner will be. The teacher needs only to tell students to get with their “popcorn” partner, etc. and students refer to their handout. Much classroom (and teacher) time is saved! This sheet can be used many ways:
1. Student Choice – Students choose all of their own partners for a determined period of time, such as a marking period. The teacher rotates the use of each partner type as the need for collaboration arises.
2. Guided Choice – The teacher chooses two of the partners ahead of time, letting students choose the other three partners independently.
Alternative: students are told parameters for finding partners (such as someone with the same color shoes, etc.
Collaboration scenarios: turn-and-talk, literacy centers, test review, collaborative writing assignments, group projects, peer editing, "we do" activities, and much more!
