These are great for small groups, partner work, or for those higher-level students who need a challenge when finished with work. They work well for beginning of the year team-building but will also make a great resource after Christmas when new students may be coming in and students have been on break for an extended amount of time.

Affirmation Station - One of my absolute favorite ways to change negative behavior into positive behavior and will transform your classroom into a highly positive environment. How do I know? I've experienced it. After walking into a class that had subs for several months and me taking over in January, the students were angry and resentful. After writing affirmations for a couple of months, these students not only started respecting each other, but they also achieved high scores on their end-of-year Reading assessment. I still believe it's from writing daily affirmations. I included an editable page where you can type your class list of student names.
Partner Interview - Who doesn't love getting to know one another? This is a way to integrate 21-questions into a game where partners keep score until they hit 21 tally marks. Students will ask questions of one another by creating their own questions or using the example I provided.
Would You Rather - What a great way to allow your students to analyze their differences and similarities. Students play a game where they try to guess what their partner is going to say when asked a "Would You Rather ___?" question. Students get a point every time they guess correctly what their partner wrote on his/her dry erase board.
Affirmations and Acrostics - Students create an acrostic poem using positive words when describing themselves. Great way to build self-esteem, but it doesn't end there! Throughout the year, other students will walk around placing taping affirmative words to their peer's acrostic. I gave you small cards with affirmative words already on them that you can edit to create your own words from your social contract or class commitment. Students could also create a self-portrait to hang with their acrostic.
LEGO Creation - Don't you just love to watch students create? The teacher builds two baggies of identical Legos. One partner creates something with the Legos with his/her back turned to the other partner. Through collaboration and listening/speaking skills, the partner has to describe what he/she built so that their peer can build an identical Lego creation. Your students are going to love these task cards!
Collaborating & Creating - Do your students love to make stuff out of anything? My kids do. Allow your students the chance to create and become innovative by building something that serves a purpose (ex. a cellphone stand holds a cellphone). Then allow them to record telling about their creation.
Comic Collaboration - This is such an easy station card. The teacher will take comics and glue onto a piece of cardstock. White out the speech bubbles and allow your students to act out the roles of what they think the characters are saying. I leave these on my table for kids to collaborate before I sit down and begin my guided reading lesson. This is not only super-creative, but also highly engaging.
I created a dotted line in the middle of each 5.5" by 8.5" card to make it easier for you to cut. Hope that was helpful.
