This fun activity was created to get students thinking about all the factors that make us human. I used it after introducing the Social Sciences and specifically teaching about Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology. Students have to look through magazines and find pictures and words that symbolize humanity from the points of view of anthropology, psychology, and sociology. They then use those images to create a collage that represents their view of humanity. Students are also asked to write a paragraph to describe their collage and why they chose the images/words that they did. The handouts include clear instructions and a rubric to evaluate the students’ work. This assignment was originally designed for a grade 11 course in Ontario called Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology (HSP3M).
