A 19-slide powerpoint presentation that activates prior knowledge, provides vocabulary, direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice for collecting and organizing data. This math lesson includes real-world examples of surveys and teaches students how to collect data for surveys by identifying a population and using random sampling. Students will also learn how to organize data by creating frequency tables and line plots. Finally, students will learn how to identify the range and outliers in data. This math lesson was used in a 5th grade class and can be divided into 3 mini lessons or may be used as a one day lesson. A great way to pre-teach data before students work on questions in their math book.
