The unit includes activities for five days of lessons, plus additional activities for centers or spiral review. An example of how to use the unit is written below:

Teaching Nouns

First, teachers introduce nouns with a hands-on activity.

Students then watch a 5 minute video lesson (included) about common, proper, and collective nouns.

At the end of the video, students complete an Anchor Chart/note sheet on the types of nouns.

Practicing Nouns

Next, students practice collective nouns. Teachers read a mentor text to the class (titles are suggested but not included). Next, they fill in phrases with the correct collective noun on a worksheet.

Students also practice identifying common, proper, and collective nouns by completing a Color By Noun page. Two different pages are included - one is more advanced, including words that are not nouns. Teachers can either use these are differentiation or save the second page for a later spiral review of the concepts.

Collective Noun puzzles are included. Teachers can use these are individual or group practice or as a center activity.

Finally, teachers can assess students' understanding of the types of nouns. Two formative assessments are included: a noun sort and a multiple choice worksheet. Teachers can use these assessments to determine what, if any, reteaching needs to occur.

Two versions of the summative test are also included, so that students can be reassessed if needed.
