11th grade students are divided into small groups to become college admissions officers who examine 3 applications to a fictitious university. Through the use of a scoring rubric, groups determine which applicant(s) are accepted or rejected. Then students reflect on the process. As an optional extension, students can fill out the fictitious application themselves and the teacher grades them based on how they filled out the application. This is an excellent activity for 11th grade AVID students to do at the end of the school year or for seniors to do at the beginning of the school year.
