Incorporate your students' college dreams into your math lesson with this pennant activity! After constructing an isosceles triangle to serve as the pennant, students will measure and name all sides and angles and record the data on the recording sheet. My students love this activity because they love to design and decorate the pennant. I love this activity because they get to practice measuring with a ruler and with a protractor, and they get to discover for themselves that the angles in a triangle really do add up to 180 degrees! (*Note: They will be asked to add their angles, and most students are off from 180 by a degree or two simply because they rounded each angle up or down by a half degree or so. Many were concerned about this, so I let them know that if they were a little off it would be ok!) The pennants also make a super cute bulletin board!
Also included is a sheet where students fill in angle and triangle vocabulary words. This can be used as a review, a warm-up to the activity, or homework. I made one blank space per letter as I find that it helps students with correct spelling. They also enjoy when we do the words together and I call on students to guess a letter that could be in a word ("Wheel of Fortune"-style!). A modified version is also included (marked with an M next to the copyright) with one, two, or three letters per word already filled in. Answer key is included!
