Using the internet to research, students are asked to choose one college that interests them. The worksheet requires students to investigate a variety of information, such as: How many applicants are accepted? What is the ethnic breakdown of students currently attending? What is the minimum GPA for admission? Cost? Is there a Greek System? And much, much more...

I have used this short research activity with students as young as 6th grade...it is never too early to start thinking (and dreaming) about college. Extension activities after the research is complete could include: creating pennants (which include images and facts learned), posters, slideshows, oral presentations, brochures, and Gallery Walks.

This activity could also work as a fun, emergency lesson plan to leave for a substitute, or as independent homework, and would even be appropriate in all subject areas!
