Teach your graduating students with IEPs to self-advocate and prepare to take the lead in their higher education!
This product contains:
*Instructions for teachers or parents to plan a visit to a college or university Office for Students with Disabilities.
*A double sided interview sheet for students to gather information about the services provided at that college for students with disabilities.
The materials in this product encourage your students to take the lead in advocating for themselves by visiting an Office for Students with Disabilities and interviewing a member of their staff during an information session. I typically schedule this visit during the second semester after college applications have been submitted, and invite every senior with an IEP who has applied to college to attend the field trip. We visit a local community college (LaGuardia CC in Queens) which has a well-organized office with a responsive staff. For parents, I recommend visiting the Office for Students with Disabilities at every school where your student plans to submit an application. An effective OSD has made a difference in the lives of my former students with IEPs who graduated college on time.
