PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

College and Career awareness is extremely important even in elementary school. It is important for students even at an early age to know what paths are available to them and what they need to do to get there.

In this purchase you will find a powerpoint and corresponding age appropriate job applications. The lesson associates to "How Santa Got His Job" by Stephen Krensky but can also stand alone. You can choose to read the book to your class or watch the YouTube video (video is hyperlinked to the santa picture on the first slide). After reading or watching the story, go through the powerpoint and have classroom discussions. The final slide depicts different skills/interestes necessary for 3 jobs: Substitute Santa, Reindeer, and Elf. Discuss the importance of aligning our skills and interests to career choices. Finally there are 3 'job applications' that correspond with the previously mentioned jobs and skills/interests; giving students the opportunity to practice filling out an application, as well as reiterating the discussion about skills and interests and careers.

I did this lesson with 1st grade, but it could easily be applicable for multiple early elementary grade levels.
