The Colonial America Language Pack is a curriculum based resource developed to target receptive and expressive oral language skills. It is intended for use in speech-language therapy, but may also be used in resource rooms or for in-class centers based activities. Language skills targeted include: inferencing, predicting, recalling details, cause and effect, main idea, and compare / contrast, This packet is intended for use with 3rd-5th grade students. It is aligned to the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts, as well as the North Carolina Essential Standards for Social Studies.*

Packet includes:
~1 fact sheet on the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies
~1 Venn Diagram
~1 Compare / Contrast visual
~18 non-fiction passage cards about The Lost Colony of Roanoake. Includes follow up questions that target inferencing, predicting, and recalling details
~15 cause and effect pairs (30 cards total) and 2 sorting maps, based on facts regarding the settlement of Jamestown
~18 main idea passage cards and 1 main idea strategy guide. Passages describe the Mayflower Voyage, Pilgrims, and Plymouth Colony.

*European Exploration and Colonization is introduced as a 3rd grade Unit of Study in the North Carolina Social Studies Curriculum. It is taught in the second quarter as part of the "History and Colonial America Unit."
*Content is expanded and studied in more depth in the 5th Grade "Revolutionary Unit."
