Colonial Virginia was the hub of southern life in Colonial America, and one of the most important cities was Alexandria. The author uses her own photographs to depict life in the Carlyle House. The photographs were taken on a day when living history actors were in residence at the home. The PowerPoint depicts the family, their slaves, and their way of life. English General Braddock made the Carlyle home his headquarters, and it was there that he strategized the French and Indian War. This PowerPoint shows you his headquarters and provides slides about the battle at Fort Necessity/Fort Duquense near modern day Pittsburgh. Braddock lost his life there, but George Washington emerged for the first time as a colonial leader. The Carlyle house also has some Civil War implications, and these are briefly mentioned.
