This twenty page activity is designed to engage students as they learn about the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies in Colonial America. Students will put themselves into history as a guest from the future by completing this booklet which records their visit back in time.
The activity begins by explaining to the students how their journey to Colonial America came about. From that point on, students put themselves in history by recording their adventures and experiences as told in their own words. They will be explaining several different aspects of this time period.
A few examples of things they will tell about are:
What day to day living was like for these early pioneers,
Who the founder was and why these colonial families settled in that particular place,
The physical features and climate of this area and how it affected the people’s way of life,
Colonial schools and how they compare to their school today,
The colonist's view about government and religion
Some of the important people they meet during their visit
These are just some of the topics the students will tell about as they put themselves into this very important time when America was just beginning.
After they have explained their journey, students will choose a final project, such as making a Diorama, creating a PowerPoint, role playing scenarios, or making an overhead detailed map of the colonies.
