Colonial America- The First Great Awakening Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- this is an 8 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teacher’s key for easy marking. It contains 25 questions based on a YouTube documentary video and an online U.S. history study guide.
Students will be introduced to the topic of The First Great Awakening by watching an online documentary video about the First Great Awakening. Jonathon Edwards, and his revivalism movement in Massachusetts, is first discussed. Following that, the spread of revivalism to the South and the apparent legacy today is reviewed. The preacher George Whitefield and his beliefs are then used as an example to explain the First Great Awakening and how it changed many Americans point of view regarding religion and equality. Following the video, students will proceed to an online U.S. History database which will provide more info about the Great Awakening. The change in American attitude towards religion, the dramatic and spectacular sermons which would be preached, and the erosion of many barriers (social, gender, class) due to the Awakening are all examined in the online article.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
