Teach students about early forms of Democracy in the American colonies. Using specific evidence from the text, students will be able to evaluate the extent to which the Virginia House of Burgesses and New England Town Hall Meetings were democratic.
Worksheet includes three (3) sections for students to complete. Section one (1) can be used in conjunction with the Brain Pop video on American Democracy or the teacher can insert a different activity. Section two (2) contains the two readings on Virginia and New England, students can work in groups, partners or alone to annotate the text and decide how "democratic" each region was. In section three (3) students decide which form of government was more democratic and why! Challenge question and exit ticket included.
