This activity contains reading social studies content for an introductory lesson on life in colonial America for students at an intermediate reading level. The source of the reading content can be found in the Colonial Life lessons or the complete Colonial Life Unit. Students will use comprehension skills. They will need to interpret a graph and use a percent. They will figure out what fraction of the people were farmers, convert that fraction to a decimal, and simplify it to lowest terms. The lesson is aligned with Common Core Standards RI.1, 2, 3, 7, and 10; NF.4.5, 6 and 7; And MD.4.2. License to copy these materials is permitted for the classes of one teacher.
