A scaffolding research project on influential colonial figures. Students are given an assortment of colonial figures to choose from, as well as, 6 different project styles. By allowing choices on both topic and project style research has shown engagement to increase (Marzano, Pickering, & Heflebower, The Highly Engaged Classroom, 2011). This comes with the student form that lists the topics, project styles, and an accountability piece at the bottom to be signed by the parent/guardian. A rubric for grading the project and presentation is included as well as a guided research sheet that can help with scaffolding the research process. Teacher may choose to use this as a take home project, in class project, or a mixture of both. Highest success has come from conducting research in the classroom and creating the project/presentation at home. Project form and rubric come as a word doc to allow for easy teacher customization.
